The featured home is a brand new, 2 story, single family dwelling with a detached Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU). The main house is a 2,900 sq. ft. home with 4 bedrooms, 3.5 baths, enclosed 2-car garage and a 280 sq. ft covered lanai. This house was built for a family of 4 with a bedroom and bathroom on the first floor to accommodate for an aging family member to be able to live with them.
The detached ADU was built as an option for other family members to live in or to be used as a rental unit. The ADU is 700 sq. ft and has 2 bedrooms, 1-bathroom, full kitchen and indoor laundry. Accessory dwelling units are small units allowed by the City to help ease Oahu’s housing crunch. They can be attached to an existing house or detached. There are requirements that need to be met before one can qualify to build an ADU. If your lot qualifies for an ADU, it can generate rental income or allow you to downsize by moving into the ADU and renting out your main house.
